90 Minutes Cut Off Time

When looking at the event timetable we have to juggle the demands of local businesses, the goodwill of our 100+ volunteers and the desires of our running friends.  Please remember this is a 100% volunteer organised and supported event.  In order to have the race we need to ensure that the roads are opened as soon as possible.

We recognise that the course is not ideal for slower runners.  There is a possibility that runners returning to the SPA after 90 minutes will be faced with the start of the Fun Runs on the SPA approach road.

To minimise this risk:

  1. The 10K will set off at 0945.
  2. Runners with slower predicted times are invited to start at the back of the first wave. This saves 7 minutes on your start and finish time.

If you are in the position that you have not finished before 1130 then we ask that you step off the course whilst the Fun Run runners pass you. It will be only add a few seconds to your time.

COVID

We will follow all relevant guidance from UK Government, our governing body - England Athletics and local health officials.

Goodies

  • Race medal - Your entry price includes a sustainable medal from a UK source.
  • Your entry includes a tree being planted in your name.
  • Buff/Snood - your 10K/5K entry includes a race buff to be collected in the finish tunnel.
  • Juniors under 15 completing the FUN RUN will have a tree planted in their name (subject to maximum of 500).
  • Juniors under 15 completing the FUN RUN will receive a race medal.
  • We will provide water along the 10k course and at the end.

Addresses

Previously a large proportion of entries contained incorrect address information.  I understand most information is now auto populated by your browser but having wrong address information pushes up our costs.  Please check your address when prompted as you confirm your entry..  Runners with poor format addresses will not have their number posted to them but will be required to collect their race number on race day.

GDPR

The entry system has a tick box asking if you are ok to recieve emails from it.  If you do not allow this then you wont receive any updates from the race team nor receive the race joining instructions.

UK Athletics URN

The entry system asks for your EA URN to check details and allow the £2 discount.  Your entry details have to match those held by UKA or the check does not work.

Full conditions can be read on the race entry system.

Sustainability

We are pleased to announce that with the help of our sponsors we have achieved the following sustainability goals:

  1. We are continuing with the goal of Zero Waste for this event and trying to improve the events sustainability. In 2021&2022 the event caused approximately 200,000 miles to be driven by runners driving to the race, but we did plant close to 5000 trees.
  2. In 2019 we had over 400 t-shirts left after the event in 2021 it was 3. In 2021 less than 500 of the 2000 competitors opted to purchase a t-shirt.
  3. Every entry includes the planting of a tree in the UK.  This year we expect to plant over 2400 trees.  This is lower than normal but the UK government in its infinite wisdom has added VAT to tree planting.
  4. Race medals are made in the UK & are made from sustainable Welsh slate.
  5. Water at race HQ and Open Air Theatre, courtesy of Proudfoots, is in bottles made from recycled plastic and are recyclable.
  6. Scarborough Borough Council will recycle the bottles.
  7. Lead vehicle is an electric car courtesy of Vantage Motor Group.
  8. For your part please car share whenever you can!

Course

The 10K course starts at The Scarborough SPA.  It is marked every kilometer with a water stop around the 4km point.
There will be a sweep vechile for runners that wish to retire.
The 5K course follows the 10K route and turns on the Headland near the skateboard park.  Runners will catch the back of the 10K and as they turn join the faster 10K runners on the return leg.
